The Royal Mail Special Un-Guaranteed Delivery with forged signature at wrong address!!!

I am sharing here my experience with Royal Mail and their Special Delivery Service. I had applied for my UK provisional license with DVLA in the third week of March. As part of the application process, I had to send the original BRP (it’s a card that is also a visa that permits my legal entry to UK as a student ) to DVLA office along with the duly filled application form. I had opted for the premium Special Delivery service of Royal Mail which guarantees delivery on the very next day of the posting by 1 pm. I opted for this service because I did not want to take any risks. The service offers an in-person delivery along with pictures and signatures of the recipient of the mail.

I was quite impressed with the service of Royal Mail when they delivered my BRP at DVLA office on the very next day. I could confirm that from the tracking service they had offered. The story begins now, since then I have been constantly following up on the tracking website to check if they have been couriered by BRP back. I could understand from my friends that DVLA might take up to two weeks to process the application. On 4th April, when I checked the tracking page while sitting in my room it was updated that the package was delivered. Yes of course, they had the picture of the delivery and the signature updated on the site. So here is the twist, the delivery person forged my signature and dropped the mail at the wrong address!! Seriously Royal Mail!! Firstly, your delivery person went to the wrong address. Then he didn’t even wait for a person to answer him, he just forged my signature and updated the status as delivered. Last time when I checked the Royal Mail website, as per the protocol, the delivery person must leave a ‘Something for you’ card with details so that it can be collected by the person or they should attempt delivery on another day!!! Instead of doing this, your delivery person did something unprofessional, illegal, and inappropriate. It’s a crime that he has committed.

I went to the Royal Mail Delivery Office at St Rollux, Glasgow on the very next day (05 April). I spoke to the receptionist and gave all the details. He went in and came back after some time to promise me that the item would be delivered EOD and they would call me, as I had given my cell number to them, just to be disappointed because they neither delivered it nor called to update the status!! I also raised the issue using the Contact Us page of Royal Mail on the 4th and I had to wait till today (9th April) to get a reply mail! Guess what? They asked me to confirm if I had received the mail or not!! Come on guys!! Are you serious? It’s the sixth day, you were supposed to deliver the mail on the 4th of April!!! Yet, I have no update from you guys. Where is my mail?? What is your plan?? Who is responsible for the mess?? I had also tried to contact them on their Twitter handle and helpline number just to be disappointed again. I went to the Scotland Police for help on 06 April (Saturday), they said that they were helpless and wanted me to contact the Royal Mail!!!

I am still waiting for my ‘Guaranteed Mail’… !!!

Note: The mail is still ‘delivered’ on the tracking website of Royal Mail.
